Complications of pruritus are usually caused by scratching. These include infection from the open areas and scarring. Other skin complications are impetigo(infectious blistering skin condition) and lichen simplex chronicus(a condition that leads to a chronic scratch-itch cycle).Severe pruritus can lead to depression due to the discomfort and anxiety it produces.
