Renovascular hypertension is raised blood pressure due to narrowing of the blood vessels that supply the kidneys. This narrowing is usually caused by atherosclerosis of the renal vessels. Atherosclerosis is accumulation of fat in the vessels due to high cholestrol. The kidney mistakenly responds to the narrowing as if there is low blood pressure and in turn causes blood pressure to rise by retaining water.
