Treatment of palpitation depends on the cause. Most palpitations are harmless and often go away on their own. In these cases, no treatment is needed, but rather to avoid triggers by; reducing anxiety and stress, avoid or limit caffeine, nicotine and alcohol, avoid illegal drugs, such as cocaine and avoid medicines that act as stimulants. For medical conditions such as an overactive thyroid and irregular heartbeat they are treated with medicines or procedures.
