The characteristic symptoms of COPD are cough with the production of sputum, wheezing and breathlessness. Coughs seem to 'go down the chest' and frequent infections with productive sputum are caught. The symptoms are worsened by cold, fog and air pollution. Breathlessness becomes more severe with disease progression.
