Vitiligo is a chronic condition of the skin which causes depigmentation, which means there are patches of skin that are lighter than the rest of the skin. Vitiligo occurs when melanocytes, the cells responsible for creating pigment in your skin, are unable to function. It occurs in childhood or early adult life. The condition usually involves the hands, genitalia and face.
