Acute pharyngitis is a painful inflammation of the pharynx (the area linking the nasal and the oral cavity to the larynx) in the throat. Acute pharyngitis means that the condition has not lasted more than a few weeks(it would then be chronic).Pharyngitis usually occurs with a viral upper respiratory infection.
