Acute obstructive pharyngitis(croup) is an infection of the throat(larynx) and windpipe(trachea) that is caused by a virus. Symptoms include a hoarse voice, noisy breathing and a harsh, barking cough. Croup usually happens in a young child(under 5) and starts with an illness like a cold.
