As the lungs are affected, pulmonary edema leads to shortness of breath and , maybe, coughing up blood. Since air is not exchanged adequately in the lungs you are also likely to experience cyanosis or bluish discolouration. Difficult breathing leads to anxiety and a look of misery. Other symptoms may be there but are not specific, eg headache.
