The organism that most often causes erythema nodosum in children is streptococci. Adults are more likely to have sarcoidosis as the cause. Fungal infections, drugs such as sulphonamides, Behcet's disease, pregnancy esp during the 2nd trimester and Hodkin's disease are other possible triggers.
