Mitral stenosis is a heart condition in which the opening of the valves controlling blood flow through chambers of the heart is severely narrowed due to disease affecting the valves. The narrowing greatly limits the volume of blood that flows to the stronger lower heart chamber and so limits the blood pumped to the rest of the body.
