A diagnosis of secondary hypertensions is based on your history of symptoms, medication you use and a physical examination. The essential clinical finding will be a rise in your blood pressure. Your doctor will then carry out tests to determine the cause of the hypertension. When a cause is identified, a diagnosis of secondary hypertension is made. Sometimes your doctor recommends these tests when the anti-hypertensive medication is not working well.
