Bullous pemphigoid is a chronic condition that lasts indefinitely. Older blisters heal quickly as new ones appear. The condition does respond well to treatment and you may be able to stop treatment after several years. However, the steroid treatment may cause some permanent and serious side effects, eg diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and bone weakening.
