You are at a higher risk factor for hay fever if a family member has a similar condition. Repeated exposure to the allergen or multiple allergens are other risk factors. If you have other allergies, eg asthma, urticaria and atopic dermatitis, you may also be at a greater risk. Not sticking to your therapy also increases the risk.
