In children, nephrotic syndrome is commonly caused by a condition called minimal change disease, while in adults it often follows a condition called membranous glomerulonephritis. Sometimes nephrotic syndrome is caused by infection(throat, hepatitis, mononucleosis), certain drugs, cancer, genetic disorders, immune disorders or diseases that affect many parts of the body, eg diabetes, systemic lupus erythematosus, multiple myeloma and amyloidosis.
