The diagnosis of rheumatic aortic valve disease is made by your doctor based on your history of rheumatic fever, other rheumatic valve disease (especially the mitral valve) and a physical examination that will reveal changes in your pulse, blood pressure and heart beat. You may also need to have tests that confirm valve changes. These include an echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) and an electrocardiogram showing electrical impulses of the heart.
