The complications of hypertrophy of the adenoids are serious and can be life threatening. The child may suffer from obstruction of the upper airway which may lead to heart and lung failure. The face may also grow abnormally and may have a constant dull look with mouth breathing and swelling around the eyes. The condition also causes speech, swallowing and hearing problems.
