Hypertrophy of the adenoids is the abnormal growth of the lymphatic tissue located above the back of the mouth. The adenoids, also called pharyngeal tonsils, are usually small at birth, keep growing till the child reaches adolescence and then begin to shrink slowly. The size varies from child to child.
