The doctor makes a diagnosis of nasal polyps by asking questions about your symptoms and then examining you. If the polyps are large enough, they can easily be seen using light directed inside the nose. For those that can not be seen this way the doctor may need to insert a tiny camera in the nose to see the polyp.
