Gastritis is a term used to describe several conditions all with inflammation of the stomach lining. The gastritis inflammation is often due to infection with the same bacterium that causes most stomach ulcers. However, other factors-eg traumatic injury, regular use of certain painkillers or too much alcohol-also can contribute to gastritis.
