When Dupuytren's contracture first begins to develop, you may notice the skin on your palm thickens or lumps appear on your palm or fingers. Pits may also develop on your palm. Some people mistake this nodule for a tumor. Over time, you may find the nodule forms a tight band (cord) under the skin between your palm and finger tendon. Gradually, the cord begins to thicken and contract, pulling your finger inwards towards your palm. If left untreated, your finger may become permanently bent inwards. More than 1 finger can be affected.
