In cirrhosis, scar tissue replaces healthy liver tissue and gradually prevents the liver from working properly. Alcohol-induced cirrhosis (also called alcoholic cirrhosis) is the term for cirrhosis that has been caused by drinking large amounts of alcohol, usually over many years.
