Acute pancreatitis can be a life-threatening illness with severe complications and needs immediate care. Symptoms come on in a very short time or develop over a few days and include: severe pain in the upper abdomen; loss of appetite, vomiting, high temperature, yellowing of the skin and the whites of your eyes (known as jaundice) or a swollen tummy.
