The hormone calcitonin may be prescribed by your doctor. This is given as an injection to help regulate calcium levels in the body to prevent the increase in formation and breakdown of the matrix in Paget's disease. It also reduces the blood flow to the bones which increases if you have Paget's disease. Side-effects include feeling sick, being sick, diarrhoea and abdominal pain.
