A mother should breastfeed her child exclusively for the first 6 months for good growth, development and health of the baby. After that, the baby can begin eating other foods, like vegetables, eggs, fish, baby soya and fruits, but the mother should also continue to breastfeed. Make sure the food is well mashed and given in small amounts and always wash your hands before feeding the baby. HIV positive mothers should breastfeed exclusively for 6 months, then switch the baby to other foods exclusively.
