Falls - Introduction

As a child develops and learns how to crawl, sit, stand and walk, they are bound to fall one time or another. Among older children, falls are more common during playtime. WHO defines a fall as an event which results in a person coming to rest inadvertently on the ground or floor or a lower level. Most falls in children have little consequences and only result in minor cuts and bruises. However, some falls can have fatal consequences, which can range from fractures, head injuries and even death. It is therefore important for caregivers to arm themselves with some knowledge about falls.
