HIV is grouped into 2 main types 1 and 2; HIV-1 and HIV-2.Each type has its own characteristics and strains. So even if you have one type of HIV you must avoid getting another type/strain. Your treatment (ARVs) helps you fight the virus but if you add more viruses the ARVs might not work and you could get more sick. Condoms prevent sexual fluids mixing so avoids spreading HIV and protect you from other HIV strains. Infected and uninfected people must use condoms every time.
