Trichomoniasis(trich) is a Sexually Transmitted Infection(STI).It is caused by parasites passed by having unprotected penetrative or oral sex with an infected person. The parasite can survive for about 45 minutes outside the human body so rarely trich can be caught from infected towels, baths or clothing. In pregnant women trich can cause premature birth. In women and men it greatly increases the risk of catching HIV and it can cause infertility. So its important to get treated by a trained health worker IMMEDIATELY-it is easy to treat. ALL sex partners must be treated or you will get infected again. ALWAYS use condoms to reduce the risk of trich, HIV and other STIs.
