Constipation is when defecating becomes difficult or less frequent. It involves painful passing of hard, dry stools. It usually happens when the large intestine absorbs too much water from food. Constipation is often caused by poor diet, especially not eating enough fruits and green vegetables. Other causes include certain drugs, pregnancy, lack of exercise, resisting the urge to defecate. Colon cancer and depression can also cause constipation. Visit the nearest health unit if constipation continues for more than 2wks.
