Second degree burns injure the first and second layers of skin. Soak the burn in cool water for 15 minutes. Then rush to the nearest health unit for tetanus shots and burn treatment. Wash your hands with soap and water before changing the bandage EVERY TIME. Gently wash the burn and apply a fresh dressing. Check the burn for signs of infections such as redness, swelling or pus. If you see these signs, visit the health unit IMMEDIATELY. Burned skin itches as it heals-avoid scratching as that can cause infection.
