Tapeworm infections happen when a person eats food contaminated with tapeworm eggs. The tapeworm parasites enter the body and when they mature they lay thousand of eggs some of which pass into the faeces while others move to other body parts and spread the infection. Tapeworms can cause loss of appetite, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and nausea. To prevent infection: deworm often, use latrines, ALWAYS wash hands before eating or handling food and make sure that all meat is well cooked especially pork.
