It is safer for both mother and child if births are attended by a trained midwife, nurse or doctor. If problems arise during the birth these people can help if they are there. All births, especially first births, are safer in a health facility-dangerous problems can arise during birth-if the lady is in a health facility it is easier for her to get help. Ante-natal care (ANC) can help to detect problems and deal with them early.
