TB is a bacterial infection that often develops in the lungs but can also develop in the brain and other parts of the body. TB that forms in parts of the body other than the lungs is common in people who are HIV positive. The symptoms and test results can be different, make sure you tell the clinic that you are HIV positive and have them conduct a physical exam as well as a bacteria test. You will be asked to cough up fluid (called sputum) for the bacteria test.
