A normal pregnancy lasts 40 weeks. Premature birth is when a pregnant woman gives birth before 36 weeks of gestation. Premature birth is dangerous for the baby and the mother. Some causes of premature birth include malaria, STIs, poor diet, fatigue, stress and accidents. To avoid premature birth, pregnant women should be tested for STIs, use condoms during pregnancy, sleep under insecticide treated nets and seek care from a health worker whenever they don't feel well.
