Most fistula cases are among girls below 18 who are not fully developed for child bearing. The constant flow of urine or faeces is extremely unpleasant for the woman. Fistula can be repaired, but the operation is delicate and difficult. Sometimes, it is not successful. Some fistulas can be repaired without an operation if a woman seeks treatment within a few days of delivering. The best way to prevent fistula is for girls to delay sex until 18 to 20 years. Use family planning or condoms EVERY TIME you have sex to prevent unwanted pregnancy.
