Rabies is a fatal viral disease that affects your central nervous system and brain and is transmitted by a bite from an infected animal, usually a dog. Symptoms include fever, depression, confusion, muscle pain and paralysis, painful swallowing, excessive saliva and sensitivity to touch, loud noise and light. A person with rabies panics when presented with liquids and cannot quench their thirst. Rabies vaccine must be given immediately after a bite over several days and is highly successful if given promptly after a bite. If you are bitten, seek treatment IMMEDIATELY.
