The liver is a large organ in the upper right abdomen that helps in digestion and removes waste products from the blood. Liver disease refers to any disorder of the liver that disturbs the liver's normal functions. Alcohol is one of the leading causes of liver disease. Viruses such as Hepatitis A and B can cause irritation, soreness and swelling of liver, as well as scarring of the liver known as cirrhosis. Cancer of the liver, poisons and inherited (genetic)conditions can also cause liver diseases.
