VCT in full is Voluntary Counselling and Testing. It is an approach to HIV testing. 'Voluntary' means you have made the decision to know your status and are choosing to be tested. This is the first important step in getting information about your health which can save or prolong your life. 'Counselling' is support and information that is given before and after the test to help you deal with results. 'Testing' is usually done by taking a drop of blood from a tiny prick (normally on a finger). Results are ready in about 15 minutes.
