Haemorrhoids, also known as anal piles, are swelling and soreness of veins in the rectum and anus. They can be inside or outside the rectum, with swellings or hard lumps around the opening of the anus. One can have both types at the same time. Treatment depends on which type one has. Common symptoms for haemorrhoids are bleeding while defecating, bright red blood on toilet paper after defecating, rectal pain and itching. Haemorrhoids can be treated with creams and surgery in severe cases.
