Dysentery and all diarrhoeal diseases can be prevented with good hygiene and sanitation. Use toilets and do not defecate or urinate in or near a water source. Wash hands with soap or ash after using a latrine or toilet, before preparing, serving or eating food and after touching dirt, rubbish or a sick person's faeces or urine. Drink clean water and eat or serve cooked food while still hot as food may contain germs that can cause diarrhoea.
