IUD in full is Intra Uterine Device. INTRA means within. UTERINE means that it is to do with the uterus (womb)- the organ inside a woman where a baby grows. DEVICE means something carefully designed for a particular purpose. An IUD is also called a copper T or coil. It is put inside the woman's womb to prevent her from getting pregnant.
