If a pregnant woman has a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), it can harm the baby and mother. Some STIs, e. g herpes, syphilis, HIV, hepatitis, gonorrhoea can be passed to the baby during pregnancy or birth, causing them to be very sick or die. Some STIs such as syphilis can cause premature birth. To avoid this, pregnant women should be tested for STIs and use condoms during pregnancy. If you have itching/wounds in private parts or bleeding/abnormal discharge, go to a clinic IMMEDIATELY.
