Ectopic pregnancy is where the fertilised egg implants outside the womb, usually in the fallopian tube. In a tubal ectopic pregnancy, the fertilized egg cannot reach the womb because of scarring or obstruction. The thin walls of the fallopian tube may eventually burst, resulting in pain and severe bleeding inside the mother's body. An ectopic pregnancy is an EMERGENCY and if not treated can lead to death. Go to the antenatal clinic immediately for a check-up as soon as you know you are pregnant.
