Depo is the injection prevents pregnancy for 3 months. It starts working immediately if given during your period. If it is given at any other time in your cycle it will work after 7 days so use condoms to prevent pregnancy in the first week. If you miss an injection after your first one runs out (12 weeks after it was given) you need to use another form of birth control until you get the next injection.
