A pap smear is the test used to diagnose cervical cancer. You should have the test when not on your period. Cervical cancer is treated best if found early so get tested often: women aged 25-60 should try to get tested every 5 years. The test should not hurt but it may be slightly uncomfortable. It takes just a few minutes. Pap smears should be free at most Health Centres.
