An IUD is suitable for most women over 18 years. You can have an IUD fitted anytime even during your period, after birth, C-section, abortion or miscarriage. It can be inserted immediately after giving birth. An IUD CANNOT be fitted when you are pregnant- check before getting one. Do not use an IUD if you are allergic to metal. Talk to a health worker and husband/fiancé before choosing IUD. IMPORTANT- if you or your husband have other sexual partners you are at risk of sexually transmitted infections(STIs) and HIV/AIDS. The IUD does not protect against these.
