Cardiovascular syphilis affects your heart and blood vessels. It can cause the following problems, usually around 15-30 years after you were originally infected: inflammation of the aorta (the main blood vessel in your body), which may lead to problems with the flow of blood coming out of your heart narrowing of the coronary arteries-this may cause angina-like chest pain, aortic aneurysm-this happens when the wall of the aorta becomes weakened and so expands, sometimes to the point where it's at risk of bursting.
