It can be difficult to make changes to your diet. Here are a few suggestions. Watch portion sizes. Avoid situations where you are more likely to eat too much e. g. eating at the same time as doing something else e. g. watching TV or reading. You are more likely to overeat when you are tired, stressed or very hungry. Eat slowly, chew food well and concentrate on what you're eating. When you eat out go for dishes that are grilled, steamed or boiled. Choose sauces made from tomatoes or vegetables instead of cream or cheese. Order vegetables or a side salad with your meal. If necessary, eat a healthy snack beforehand to avoid overeating. Try not to skip meals as this will make you hungry later on. Eat 3 balanced meals and include a starchy food, vegetables or salad and some protein (meat, fish, cheese, egg or beans).
