To diagnose Vitamin D deficiency, these tests are done:blood tests to check levels of vitamin D and other substances, eg creatinine, calcium and phosphate; a bone biopsy to detect bone softening; bone x-rays and a bone density test to detect 'false' fractures, bone loss and bone softening. Other tests may be done to determine if there is a kidney problem or other underlying disorder.
