Staphylococcus aureus is a bacteria that sometimes attacks the skin. It also is the cause of wound infections and has the potential to induce bone infection(called osteomyelitis), infection of the heart(called endocarditis) and infection of the blood(called bacteremia) leading to infections in any of the major organs of the body. It also is responsible for many serious community and hospital acquired infections.
