The herpes simplex disease is mainly transmitted by direct contact. Type-1 is transmitted via the mouth and causes rashes and ulcers on the face, mouth and trunk. Type-2 is transmitted sexually and causes skin rashes and ulcers over the genitals, thighs and buttocks. Type-1 can also cause damage to the tissues of the eyes, while Type-2 can be transmitted to the newborn.
